Mitchem Funeral Services Friday
Mrs. Margaret Mitchem, 88, of Harper, Route 1, and a pioneer resident of Raleigh County, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. T. R. Cooper, 214 Westwood Dr., Beckley.
Mrs. Mitchem, who was born April 18, 1866, had been ill the past two weeks. She lived all her life in Raleigh County.
A daughter of Levi Mitchem and Susan Bailey Evans Mitchem, both deceased, she was the widow of James N. Mitchem who died in 1904.
Seven of her 11 children are among her survivors. The children are Mrs. T. R. Cooper, Beckley; Volly Mitchem, Harper, Route 1; William Mitchem, Dry Hill; Mrs. T. G. Honaker, Beckley; Fred Mitchem, Eccles; John Mitchem, Harper, with whom she made her home; and James Carl Mitchem, Harper, Route 1. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Dickerson, Mabscott Hill; Mrs. F. S. Blake, Fayetteville; a brother, John A. Evans of Harper, Route 1; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
The body will be removed from the Calfee Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Friday to the New Prospect Baptist Church at Sweeneyburg. Funeral rites will be held at the church at 2:30 p.m. Friday and burial will be made in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. A. J. Cook, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Beckley and the Rev. C. H. Painter, of Sweeneyburg.
