Leo G. Bodensteiner, 85, of Redwood Falls died on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Redwood Falls Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4- 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a KC rosary. Visitation will continue on 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Redwood Falls; Leo Bodensteiner and wife Teri of Bellingham, Wash., James Bodensteiner and wife Mary of Maple Grove, Richard Bodensteiner and wife Julie of Red Wing, Kathryn Spanier and husband Mike of Prior Lake; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Lalewicz of Buffalo, N.Y. and Terese Leishman of Alamo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

He was born on Jan., 4, 1914, in St. Lucas, Iowa, to John and Theresia (Drilling) Bodensteiner. He moved with his family to Adams, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1938. He served in the Army during World War II. He was involved in five invasions including Oran, North Africa, Anzio, Italy and San Raphael, France. He retired from Army Reserves as Lt. Colonel after more than 30 years. On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Mary Ann Lyons in Madison, S.D. He worked for the Department of Agriculture first as attache' to the American Consulate General in Calcutta, India. He then went to Washington D.C. until 1958, and then to Lakefield where he also taught veterans ag. In 1960 they moved to Newcastle, Wyo. In 1961 they moved to St. James and then to Redwood Falls in 1966 where he was county supervisor for Farmers Home Administration. He retired in 1979. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. He was a 50- year member of Knights of Columbus where he had been Grand Knight. He belonged to the V.F.W., American Legion, and Elks for over 50 years. He was a member of the Redwood Falls Golf Club and Kiwanis Club.
