Born November 4, 1927 in Saul KY he was the son of the late John D. and Laura Spurlock Barger.
Rev. Barger was a minister of the Church of God for 60 years; he had pastored eight other churches and was a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God. He had earned a Masters Degree in Youth and Christian Education; he was also a 30 year employee of the William Powell Manufacturing Co. Reverend Barger was a veteran of the United States Army, a United States Army Reservist and a member of the Kentucky National Guard. He served in World War II where he received the Victory Medal and the WW II Occupation Medal; he also received a Presidential Citation from President Truman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are: three sons, James (Ollie) Barger of NC, Stephen Barger of IN and Tim (Cynthia) Barger of Burgin; one daughter, Sandra (Henry) Wells of Washington County; two brothers, John David Barger of Hyden, KY and Robert (Nancy) Barger of AL; four sisters, Belva Tryee of AL, Beulah Henderenson of AL, Bertha Campbell of Loveland, OH and Neva Baker of AL; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Barger was preceded in death by a son, Perry Barger, a daughter, Linda Scott and three brothers, Ray S., Troy and J. D. Barger.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, at the Harrodsburg Church of God with Bro. Glenn Doughtery officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Harrodsburg Church of God.
