FORY, Garland Vallard 91, of St. Petersburg, died Jan. 12, 2011. He was born in Shreveport, LA. Garland was a 31 year veteran of the United States Air Force serving in World War II, Korea and in Vietnam. He flew hundreds of missions in World War II and Korea. He always felt it was a great honor to be a "fighter pilot." Garland was also very proud of the opportunity he had to fly with Buzz Aldrin and John Glenn in Korea. After retirement he moved to Feather Sound and became a beloved member of the community. His years in the service shaped who he was and the community of friends he kept forever. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Skaggs Fory. He is survived by daughter, Karen Fory (Gaylon) Swanson, and many other friends and family. There will be a service at Feather Sound Community Church in Clearwater, Jan. 20, 2011, at 3 pm with visitation at 2 pm. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a date yet to be determined. Please consider a donation to the Fisher House Foundation in Garland's name in lieu of flowers.
