Son of Col. George Washington Higginbotham and Johanna Croxton Higginbotham

Husband of Nancy Croxton Higginbotham

He was a farmer and was a Captain Colonel in Company F of the 58th Virginia Infantry, Confederate States of America Army. The regiment went into service under Brigadier-General Ed. Johnson, and was assigned to Jackson's Division. It took part in the brilliant series of engagements and movements which made up the campaign of the illustrious General Jackson, until his fall at Chancellorsville, from which time its record is a part of that of the Army of Northern Virginia. He was discharged in 1862. The sword he carried in the Civil War was the same carried by his father, Col. George Washington Higginbotham, in the War of 1812, and carried by his grandfather, Col. James Higginbotham, in the Revolutionary War.
