Robert Keen Boyer, 89, of Dallastown, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 13, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Grace (Stegner) Boyer.

Born in West York, on March 14, 1921, Bob was the son of the late Harry Otis and Mable May (Schweigert) Boyer.

He grew up in a loving family with his five brothers. Bob graduated from West York High School in 1941, then in 1942 enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served three years during World War II in the Amphibian Force. For two of the years he was stationed in New Guinea. He achieved the rank of Machinist Mate First Class. After discharge, he used skills he learned in the Navy during a 42-year career as a tool room machinist at Borg Warner/York International, retiring in 1983.

Bob loved hunting, fishing, and going to Bethany Beach with his family. In high school, he was a West York Bulldog basketball player and cross-country runner. After high school, he played in softball and bowling leagues. Bob followed sports, especially the Penn State Nittany Lions, and was an avid card player, piano player, and gardener. He served in the Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Girl Scouts as a leader, advisor, and committeeman for many years. Bob had been attending Christ Lutheran Church of Spry since 1945, where he served on several committees and worked with the church youth group. He sang with the Golden Agers of Dallastown, and spent countless hours singing in the choir at the church, something he never lost his passion for. Bob was especially known for his kindness, his love and pride for his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and his ability to teach others. His family lovingly called him "Big D".

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two daughters, Joyce Fengfish and her husband, Dave of York, and Brenda Billet and her husband. Ken of Dallastown; one son, Robert Boyer and his wife.
