SPARTA, Wis. - Paul C. Kinder, 78, of Sparta died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on Feb. 18, 1925, to Ernest and Frances (Boyd) Kinder in Viola, Wis. He grew up in Viola and was baptized at the Viola Methodist Church on Oct. 12, 1947.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star and two Theater Ribbons. He worked for La Crosse and Eau Claire Plumbing Supplies for more than 35 years and retired in 1986. After retirement, Paul and his wife, Joyce (Buros), moved to their lake home in Rock Dam, Wis. and spent winters in Arizona. They moved to Sparta in 1999.
Paul and Joyce celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22, 2003. He was a member of the Sparta VFW Post No. 2112 and the Congregational United Church of Christ, Sparta. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles and his Evinrude outboard motors. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Sparta; five children, Richard (Jeanne) Kinder of La Crosse, Conrad (Sue) Kinder of La Crosse, Kristine Kinder of West Salem, Kathy (Steve) Rapraeger of Holmen, and Patti (Thomas) Nesseth of Sparta; a son-in-law, Steve Jensen; 13 grandchildren, Heather, Melissa, Darren, Matt, Joey, Ryan, Brian, Cory, Ricci, Kelly, Heath, Tad, and Ahna Mary; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Kinder Jensen.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Sparta, with the Rev. Curtis Miller officiating. Burial will be at a later time in the Viola Cemetery, Viola, Wis.
Friends may call at the Congregational United Church of Christ on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of services. Memorials are preferred.
