Son of John J. O'Hara and Helen "Nell" Doyle. Grandson of Daniel O'Hara and Elizabeth Murphy, as well as Michael J. Doyle and Maria Benedicta Fitzpatrick.

Justice of the Michigan State Supreme Court 1963-1968.

From the Madison Capital Times, July 19, 1978:

"An autopsy has been ordered in the death of former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Michael D. O'Hara, whose body was found floating in a marina near his moored power boat.

Authorities say O'Hara, 67, apparently suffered a heart attack while fishing in Green Bay near his home. Sgt John Zoberski of the Menominee police said O'Hara's body was spotted at 6:45 a.m. by a man walking along a pier.

Governor William Milliken called him 'a fine jurist and a dedicated public servant.'

O'Hara was born at Menominee September 19, 1910. After graduating from St. Norbert's College in Wisconsin, he studied law with his father, attorney John O'Hara, before serving with the Marines on Okinawa during World War II. After the war, he taught at St. Norbert's for a year and then returned to the practice of law.

He was elected to a six-year term on the Michigan Supreme Court in 1962, but failed in a bid for re-election. He was named to the state Court of Appeals where he served until his retirement in 1975."

From the Ludington Daily News, March 29, 1957:

"Like his grandfather and father before him, 'Mike' O'Hara chose the law as his profession, and has followed it as intensely as he fought with the Marine Corps in World War II.

A graduate of Menominee High School, he attended Notre Dame University, did post-graduate work at the College of St. Norbert, and studied law under Judge Leland W. Carr, a justice of the state supreme court.

O'Hara was admitted to the bar in 1935 with his father, a former state auditor general, appearing beside him. He practiced law until 1943, when he volunteered for the Marine Corps as a private, serving in [Okinawa] the South Pacific, where his unit won a Presidential citation. He was on occupation duty in Japan before being discharged from the Marine Corps as a second lieutenant.

In 1947, O'Hara was a referee for the Unemployment Compensation Commission, handling appeal cases in the Upper Peninsula, and later resumed his law practice.

Married to the former Jean Pritchard in 1938, he and Mrs. O'Hara have four children. He is a member of St. John the Baptist Church and is an officer of the Holy Name Society in Menominee. O'Hara was born in Menominee in 1910."

He married [Frances] Jean Pritchard of Franklin, Indiana, on July 30, 1938. She was born November 16, 1912 in Franklin, Indiana, and died March 29, 1965. Their four children were Terrence "Terry" Eileen, Michael Dennis, Kevin "Kiera" Jean, and Patrick Sean.

After the death of his first wife Jean, Michael married Mary Douglas Quarles Kamps of Milwaukee in 1967. Her first husband had died in 1965.
