Akron Daily Democrat, Monday evening, 4 August 1902:
"Michael J. Harhin, aged 26 years, was almost instantly killed by an Erie passenger train about 9 o'clock Saturday night. The train, which was due to arrive at 8:28, was late Saturday night, and when it did leave Akron, Harhin jumped on at the rear of the tender. He must have fallen from the train soon, for he was found at the Buchtel ave. crossing, shortly afterward, by Dr. C.E. Held. The young man still lived when found, but died in a very few minutes. The remains were removed to the home of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Harhin, 614 Miami st., where they await burial. It is a curious coincidence that 21 years before, to the very day, Harhin's father was struck and killed by a train at the Thornton st. crossing. The date of the father's death was Aug. 2, 1881. The funeral will be held from St. Mary's church, Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock. Interment in St. Vincent's cemetery. Harhin was a laborer and unmarried."
