U.S. Congressman. At the advent of World War I, he was attending New York University when he enlisted in the United States Navy and was commissioned an Ensign. After the war, he reentered New York University, graduated from the law department in 1919, was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced to practice law in New York City. He was counsel to the New York State joint legislative committee investigating guaranteed mortgages, (1934-35) and counsel to the Mortgage Commission of the State of New York, (1935-39). In 1945, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth and Eightieth Congresses and served until his resignation in 1947. He was elected a justice of the New York State Supreme Court in 1948, designated by the Governor as associate justice of appellate division in 1955 and serced until his death at age 72.
