Funeral services for Henry Brockshus of May City were held Monday, April 16, at 10"30 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church in May City. Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated.
Mrs. Dennis Heilman was organist and hymns were: "I Know That My Redeemer Lives"and "I Am Content."Mrs. Elmer Boernsen and Mrs. Alvin Berends were in charge of flowers.
Casket bearers were Alvin Groff, Donald Groff, Roger Brockshus, Duane Kooistra, Bruce Brockshus, Allen Brockshus, Larry Brockshus, Glen Brockshus, Douglas Kooistra, Keith Brockshus and Norbert Groff.
Interment was in Harrison Township Cemetery at May City with Baumgarten Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
Henry Herman Brockshus, the son of John and Anna Ahrens Brockshus, was born in Harrison Township, Osceola County on August 14, 1889. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church at May City, attended Christian Day School and rural school in Harrision Township.
He was united in marriage to Dora Boernsen at her parent's home on March 27, 1913. They lived in the May City area, farming until their retirement in 1959, when they moved to town.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had been an elder, a trustee and an LLL member. He also served on the Harrision township board of trustees.
He passed away at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake on April 14, 1979 at the age of 89. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Gesina Mohr, three brothers: Louis, Otto, and John: a son Vernon in 1958 and a grandson, Robert Brockshus in 1971.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dora, three sons: John of Ocheyedan, Marvin of Hartley, and Herbert of Bucklin, Missouri; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Meta) Groff of May City and Mrs. Joe (Erna) Kooistra of Sheldon; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; 1 sister, Hannah Stamp of May City, other relatives and many friends.
