From the records of Elizabeth Booth. Information submitted by Mrs. Maury Stevenson. Born in South Carolina. From BIOGRAPHICAL SOUVENIRS OF TEXAS, 1889, p.792, Alex Stevenson born in S.C., but the father of Alex, George Stevenson, was a native of Ireland. Alex began farming in N.C. Moved to Tennessee in 1829 and in 1837 came to Texas and settled in Lamar County being one of the first settlers. He married Margaret Searwright, a native of S.C. who bore him 7 children; Narcissa, Isiah J., William S., Sarah, George W. and one that died unnamed.

Isiah J. Stevenson was born Jan 4, 1827 in Pendleton, S.C. He married first in 1850 to Serilda Roach, daughter of James Roach of TN. Six children by this union; William, Jane A., James A., Andrew Jackson Stevenson., Emily and Lucinda E. Stevenson.

Isiah J. Stevenson's second marriage was to Mary A. Gregg, daughter of Mrs. Rebecca Gregg, a native of Arkansas. Six children to that union; Modera D., Francis, Josiah G., Elizabeth D., Margaret C. and William P. Stevenson. Isiah J. enlisted in the CSA Army in 1862, Company L, Whitfield's Legion. He was wounded Sept 19, 1862 in the battle at Iuka, MS., and received a permanant furlough for disability.

Alexander Stevenson owned 123 acres of land, according to Barbara Martin, Paris, TX he is buried in Hopkins Co. in the Mitchell Creek Cemetery along with his wife Margaret. Margaret born 11 Feb 1798 and died 25 Jun 1884.

Note: Alexander Stevenson and his wife Margaret Seawright Stevenson were moved from the Mitchell Creek Cemetery located in Hopkins County, Texas, to the Connor Cemetery several years ago because the land owner would not allow family members to visit the Mitchell Creek Cemetery.
