Rev. Leonard Metcalf was rector of the Tatterford, Norfolkshire parish church from 1573 (the first year his name appears as rector) until prior to his death in 1616.

The existing Tatterford parish register includes records copied from the actual originals by either a church warden and/or the appointed church registrar. Baptisms of four of Leonard's children are recorded in the Tatterford register (with a singular mark to their left, apparently made by his successor, his presumptive son Richard) in the years 1583, 1586, 1587 and 1594. No record of baptism, marriage or burial exists in that register for the years 1590, 1592 and 1595, they noted as "not to be found." No baptism entry for a child of Leonard is found in the years 1588, 1589, 1591, 1593, or 1596 and later; these years being extant in their apparent entirety in the church register.

On Dec. 23, 1614, Leonard gave a deposition before the Church of England's diocesian court:

"Leonard Metcalf, clerk, rector of the parish of Tatterford, where he has been [the] incumbant for forty years, born at Apperside, [in the ancient parish of Wensley, North Riding], co. York, aged 73 years." [Deposition Book, 1614, Diocesian Registry, Norwich (NEHGR 86:253)].

In this era in English church and civil proceedings, one's age was denoted by the use of the word "aged," being the familiar short form for the Latin term "Ætatis." Thus, in his deposition Rev. Leonard Metcalf indicated he was then 72 years old, born within the one year period that began Dec. 24, 1541.

In 1613, Leonard's presumption son Richard became his successor at the Tatterford parish church. Thereafter Leonard briefly became vicar of West Barsham parish north of Tatterford, where he died leaving no will. In 1616 administration was granted on the estate of "Leonard Metcalf, clerk, of West Barsham, Norfolk." [Norwich Consistory Court, administration act book, 1605-1626, fo. 193], but was otherwise buried at Tatterford where he had so long served:

"Leonard Metcalfe clarke [clerk, Rev.] was buryed ye 22th daye of September [1616]."
