William George Finley (1865-1927)

Grandfather William George Finley, was born in Otterville. Missouri. He was first child born to his parents, Sarah O. (Thornton) Finley, and Richard McClure Finley. His other "full-blood" siblings were,
Thomas Andrew, Charles Earnest, Eugene, Grace Leota, Tase,
Frederick Douglas, and Stella Mae Finley.

He married Mamie Lindsey Johnson in Cooper County, Mo. Their first three children,Ethel, Edna, Sadie, Orva,was born in Otterville. Their first son, Floyd Charles Finley, was born in Sedalia. Leland, Marie, Marjorie, and mother Bernice Vaughnciel Finley was born in Boonville,Mo.

He was a sheep farmer who (after shearing) sold Wool at a station in Saline County, MO.

He moved his family to Boonville, to " the great Water Ways" He held active membership at the I.O.O.F. Lodge, and active membership at St. Mathew AME Church, Boonville. The Finley home was located on South 4th Street. He was described as "man of good character", and "prominent citizen of the Boonville, Community.

His life stopped on the 27 of July (his birth date), 1927. An Otterville farmer found his dead body lying near his horse and wagon on Ashly Road near the Golf Course. He had left Otterville, after visiting family members. He was on his way home to Boonville. His death certificate provides cause of death as a Coronary Occulusion.
