He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary E. (Scholton) Leamer. He and Mary were blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Fred L. Leamer Jr. and wife, Marybeth, their children, Justin and Melissa and husband, Jon Mittelbronn, and their daughter, Madison, of Alpharetta, Ga.; Kathleen and husband, Austin Tepsic, their children, Evan, Elizabeth and Austin and wife, Rachele, and their children, Victoria and Kayda, of Tyrone; Colleen and husband, Chet Garlick, and their daughter, Nichole of Duncansville; and Joel Leamer and his children, Kyle and Olivia, of Naples, Fla.

Also surviving are a sister, Anna Mae Syme; and a brother, Richey Leamer and wife, Marlene. He was a proud uncle of many nephews and nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William; and a sister, Doris Getty.

A native of Bull Run, Fred attended Munhall High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1945-48 aboard the USS Greenlet, USS Cocopa and USS Hector in the South Pacific theater as a salvage diver. After an honorable discharge, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey in 1949. He served at various barracks throughout the state.

In 1970, Fred was named "State Policeman of the Year" as a result of outstanding investigative work with the department. The award led to his promotion to sergeant, and he was assigned as officer in charge to Troop G., Huntingdon. Prior to retiring, he was reassigned as a detective at Troop G Headquarters, Hollidaysburg.

While working full time, Fred was an instructor teaching criminal law at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University. After more than 28 years of dedicated service with the Pennsylvania State Police, he retired in 1977. He worked with attorneys in criminal investigation and Blair County Costs and Fines during his retirement.

Fred and Mary enjoyed their retirement by traveling to three countries and 49 states. They spent many winters in Florida and moved there for 14 years, returning to Pennsylvania in 2003. Fred's enjoyment of the outdoors culminated in tending to his vegetable gardens, trees and lawn. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, cousins and neighbors and especially his grandchildren. He made a hobby of researching his genealogy and government.

Fred was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge 300, F&AM, Huntingdon, having received his 50-year membership in 2006. He also belonged to the Retired Troopers Association, Pennsylvania State Troopers Association, American Association of State Troopers, National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 24 of Huntingdon, USS Hector AR-7 Association and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona.
