Her husband John Gaines Biard first came to Texas in 1836 by horseback, with his brother William Washington Biard. Both were at the time single men. While in Texas they stopped in Clarksville, where they built the first church house in Clarksville. "Gaines" was a stone cutter. Near a printing house (?) in Clarksville is a large slab of stone with his name carved into it. The brothers returned to Limestone County, Alabama where Nancy Claudia Brackeen & John Gaines Biard were married n Dec 17, 1840.
John and Nancy Biard returned to Texas in 1847, bringing their three daughters: Minerva, Henrietta, and Matilda Frances, aka "Fannie".
After Nancy's death the following year, John married a neighbor Elvina Campbell Stallcup, widow of R. G. Stallcup. She was the mother of Mary Stallcup, who married Terrell Click, a prosperous land owner in Lamar County.
