Harold Dean Ives, 76, Hays, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born June 16, 1933, in Rooks County to Harold and Hilma (Fisher) Ives. He graduated from Stockton High School and briefly attended Kansas University and Fort Hays State.

He married Earlyne Buss on June 20, 1954, in Stockton and they were married for 50 years. Earlyne preceded him in death on March 9, 2005. Dean and Earlyne attended North Oak Community Church for most of their time in Hays.

Dean worked at the Standard filling station in Stockton then was a policeman in Stockton. He was accepted for a position with the FBI in 1957 but decided for family reasons to stay in the area. He had a 22-year career with Halliburton, working in several different positions in Hays, Russell, Liberal and finally, as the Field Supervisor in El Dorado. He began working as an Independent Production Consultant in El Dorado, moving back to Hays in 1985 as most of his work was in this area. The last few years of his career were spent primarily working for DaMar Resources, Inc., finally retiring at the end of 2007 at the age of 74.

Survivors include two sons, Brad Ives and wife, Patty, Kansas City, MO, and Darrin Ives and wife, Vicki, Prairie Village, KS; one daughter, Rhonda Lee and husband, Ed, Hays, KS; twelve grandchildren: Sarah and Blake Ives; Hannah, Hayley and Lily Ives; Kristin Schulte, Justin Garrett and wife, Mandi, Cheryl Hammel and husband, Patrick, and Robert, Michael, Diane and Sean Lee; three great-grandchildren, Logan Schulte and Caylee and Cadence Hammel. Dean is survived by one brother, Max Ives, Belle Vista, AR and five sisters, Norma Moore, Bridgeport, NE, Ruth Fenton and husband, Raleigh, Stockton, KS, Elaine Yoxall, Concordia, KS, Joyce Keeten and husband, Donald, Glade, KS, and Dixie Rose, Levelland, TX, and one cousin, Duane Connell, who was raised with the family. Dean is also survived by sister-in-law, Darlene Farr and her husband, Charlie Farr; sister-in-law Twila Carpenter and her husband Byron, and brother-in-law DeVane Cunningham and his wife, Ellen.

One brother, A.J. Ives, preceded him in death, as well as a sister-in-law, Doris Cunningham and two other cousins that were raised with Dean, Bob and Darrell Zwink.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at North Oak Community Church, Hays, with a light luncheon afterwards at the church. A graveside service will be held at the Stockton Cemetery at 3 p.m. with a reception after in the First Christian Church basement.
