FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ROBERT L. BOYCE HELD SATURDAY
From the Opinion Tribune dated 06-24-1929:

Funeral services for R. L. Boyce, who passed away Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mat McCluskey were held from the West Oak Baptist church Saturday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. J. F. Stille in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. F. A. Sullivan with Miss Mary Evelyn Logan at the piano. The pallbearers were John Colwell, L. B. Osborne, Simon Stille, Ellis Webb, Emil Arp and Bernie Hamilton. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Glenwood cemetery.

Robert L. Boyce was born in Scarlet County, Missouri, October 22, 1846 and departed this life at the home of his daughter Mrs. A. M. McCluskey June 20, 1929 at the advanced age of 82 years, 7 months and 28 days.

On November 22, 1865 he was united in marriage to Nancy Belle Croson and to this union were born eight children, one boy and three girls preceded him in death. Those living and who also were at his bedside when he departed and are also mourning his loss are E. G. Boyce of Pacific Junction, Ia.; J. D. Boyce of Carrol, Neb.; Mrs. A. M. McCluskey, Glenwood, Ia.; and Mrs. Ferdinand Seitz, Council Bluffs, Ia.

Eight years ago last March Mr. Boyce suffered the loss of his faithful helpmate in life after which for a time he maintained his own home but for the last two years made his home with his daughter.

Others who survive him are sixteen grandchildren and thirty-our great-grandchildren and also other relatives, an unusually large number of friends.

The subject of this sketch has been a resident of this state for 63 years, fifty eight years of which were spent in Mills County and five years in Council Bluffs. He served the public as road supervisor for twelve years and as director of schools for fifteen years.

During a revival meeting held at the White Chapel school house some distance west and north of Old Pacific City, about thirty-two years ago he experienced the new birth and consecrated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, uniting with the United Brethren church in which faith he retained his membership to the end. Mr. Boyce was an untiring worker in the Master's cause and lived his religion seven days of the week and 365 days of the year. He will be greatly missed at the West Oak Baptist church where many happy years of his Christian service were spent as well as in every community where he lived.
