Martha was the daughter of Isaac and Nancy Sullivan Ragan. She was the second wife of Christopher C. Deem.

At about 9 p.m. on the evening of Sept. 22nd, she succumbed to malaria. She was laid to rest on Sept. 24th.

Mrs. Martha J. Deem

Mrs. Martha J. Deem, died at her home in Anutt, Mo., Sept. 22, at 9:15 p. m., after a short illness. Deceased was the eldest daughter of the late I. H. and Nancy J. Reagan, and was born in McCoupin County, Ill., Oct. 1, 1861. At time of death she was 52 years, 11 months and 20 days old.
(The next sentence can not be read), the sentence mentions her first husband, Wm. _______ he died two moths after their marriage. In 1885 she was married to C. C. Deem. To this union nine children were born, three preceding her to the better land.
The deceased is survived by her husband, six children, three sisters, three brothers and five step-children.
Her body was laid to rest in the Rock Springs Cemetery Sept. 25th, in the presence of a large gathering of friends.
