U.S. Congressman. He studied law at Haverhill and Exeter, was admitted to the bar in 1849 and practiced law in Laconia, New Hampshire. He was clerk of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1852-54), moderator of Laconia, (1862-63) and a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1865-66). In 1871, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress, serving until 1873. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed judge of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire, serving (1873-74), was director of Laconia National Bank and a member of board of education of Laconia, New Hampshire, until his death.
