Civil War CSA Congressman. He served as a member of the Alabama state legislature in 1851 and 1855, and as a Justice of Alabama State Supreme Court in 1859. After Alabama seceded from Union, he was elected as a Delegate from Alabama to the Confederate Provisional Congress, serving from 1861 to 1862. He was then elected as a Senator from Alabama to the Confederate Senate, serving from 1864 to the collapse of the Confederacy in 1865.
