Ray Graves, 68, a 43-year resident of the Cottage Grove area, died July 14 of congestive heart failure.

He was born Feb. 22, 1936, to Fletcher and Lou Belle Graves of Murphy, N.C. He completed the 11th grade in Murphy, N.C.

He was married for 49 years to Barbara Allen.

He was a truck driver and also served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a truck driver at Weyerhaeuser Co. for 27 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and helping his wife with the garden. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He recently received an award from Weyerhaeuser for his 27 years of work.

Survivors include daughter: Debbie Fuller of Cottage Grove; son: Jason Allen of Portland; three sisters: Jean McDonald, Joan Dockery and Faye Chastain all of Murphy, N.C.; one brother: Carl Graves of Murphy, N.C.; and three granddaughters: Sydney Allen of Cottage Grove, Kim Smith of Bend and Shanna Antonelli of Cottage Grove.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Graves, and by his parents, Fletcher and Lou Belle Graves.

A service was held Monday at Calvary Baptist Church in Cottage Grove. Arrangements were under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
