Mabel Monson, of Mora, passed away on Jan. 8, 2011 at Villa Health Care Center. She was 81 years old.

Mabel was born Aug. 23, 1929, in Whited Township to John and Christine (Hinderer) Monson. She grew up on the family farm with her two brothers, George and Robert. She attended Quamba grade school and high school in Mora. Mabel was baptized, confirmed and attended the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.

She took Nurses training at General Hospital in Minneapolis and after working some years she went back to school at the University of MN and Colorado to get her Masters Degree in Public Health Nursing. Over the years she had worked in Mora, Worthington, Anoka County, Washington D.C., Mankato, St. Peter, Superior, and Winona. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Brook Park, Minn. Mabel liked to travel, do needle point and walk.

She is survived by her brothers, George of Mora and Robert (Edna) of Braham, other family and many friends.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Monson.

Funeral Services are on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church of Mora with Rev. Michael Breach presiding. Music was provided by Deb Menze. Pallbearers were Melvin Besser, Lee Hemness, Leroy Hippen, Ed Brammer, Jerry Weidendorf and Roger Anderson. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
