PFC Bennie Black, the son of Benjamin B Black and Mable Mae Campbell, was killed in action in Luzon, Philippines. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. He was serving in Company B, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was survived by his parents, a sisters, Helen Maudean Black McAlpine and Bettie Joe Black; and two brothers, Marvin Black and Ernest Minyard Black.

He was returned to the United States for reburial in the Dew Cemetery. PFC Black was the recipient of the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
