US Congressman. Elected to represent Tennessee's 7th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1855 to 1861. Also served as a Representative from Tennessee in the Confederate Congress from 1862 to 1865, State Court Judge, Justice of the Tennessee State Supreme Court, and Candidate for Governor of Tennessee in 1880. A veteran of the Civil War, he served as a Colonel in the Confederate Army.
