Born in Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Brigid (Hession) Conneely. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Belize on July 31, 1930 and professed her vows on January 28, 1933.
Sister Mary began her teaching ministry at Holy Redeemer School in Belize and later became Principal of St. Ignatius School. She was assigned to Mercymount School in Cumberland, RI, in 1969 for two years and then was assigned Principal to St. Joseph School, Pascoag, RI. In 1976 she became a teacher at St. Mary Academy-Bay View in Riverside, RI, until 1985, when she retired.
In addition to her Mercy family, she leaves a sister, Sister Christine Marie Conneely of Newton, MA, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Peter, Dennis, John Edward, and Joseph Conneely.
Sister Mary Conneely died on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre.
