U.S. Congressman. Father of Congressman Harry Lane Englebright, he served as a joiner’s apprentice in the U.S. Navy at the Navy yard, Mare Island, California. Completing studies in engineering, he was a mining engineer in Nevada City, California and a member of the Nevada City Board of Education. In 1906, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James N. Gillett, reelected to the Sixtieth and Sixty-first Congresses, serving until 1911. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he continued his work as a mining engineer until his death at age 59.
