Mosely C. Gaines, Sr. was born on April 22, 1912 in Massies Mill, Virginia to the late Matthew Douglas Gaines and Lelia Reynolds Gaines. He was the oldest of the fourteen (14) children of this union. His early education and development were in Massies Mill.

Mosely was united in holy matrimony to the late Ruth Virginia Lambert Gaines. The couple resided in Washington, D. C. From this union were born Matthew Gaines, Dr. Lelia T. Gaines, Marlene G. Stringfellow, and Mosely C. Gaines, Jr. MM, RMT, LPC.

Mosely's call to Christianity was realized at the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Massies Mill, VA. He later joined Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Mosely was a dedicated and committed father, son, and brother. He thoroughly enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and he had a deep appreciation for animal life and nature.

Mosely worked as a printing supervisor and bindery foreman for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). He retired in 1988 after forty-two (42) faithful years of U.S. Government service.

God called Mosely into eternal rest and uncompromising peace on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at the Wash. Hospital Center.

In addition to his children, Mosely leaves behing five (5) grandchildren, five (5) great-grandchildren, four (4) brothers, two (2) sisters, and a host of other relatives, in-laws, and friends to cherish his loving memory. He will be missed by all.
