80, of Elyria, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 16, 2010. He was born February 21, 1930 in Maple Hill, West Virginia. He has lived the last 54 years in Elyria.
Lawrence served in the Army Air Corp and United States Army for seven years, five years overseas in Germany, Korea, and Japan. He retired from the Kasper Foundry after 28 years working in the Shipping and Receiving Dept. He also worked for the Elyria City School System serving in the maintenance dept., bus driver, school guard, and monitored the halls on game nights. He was a member of the Elyria VFW Post #1079.
He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing, and gardening.
Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary "Irene"; daughter Jeannie Onderko of Elyria (Bob Childers), daughter-in-law Teresa Elkins of Vermilion, son Larry Elkins (wife Mary) of Ashland, daughter Karen Andras of Lorain, son Eric Elkins (Stacy) of Parma; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister Grace Turor of Orlando, FL.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeff Elkins in 2009; brother Justin Elkins; six half brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at the Elyria Community Church of Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Avenue, Elyria. 5-8pm Monday, September 20. Funeral service will be 11am Tuesday, September 21 at the church. Pastor Jim Deulley, Pastor of Elyria Foursquare Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Elyria VFW Post #1079.
