Howard Wesley Baum Jr., of Abilene, Texas passed on peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 12, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving wife of more than 57 years, Monique, and his three children Howard, Glen, and Gabrielle. Wes, as know by family and friends, was born in Cross Plains, Texas on January 10, 1928. He was a career military man, serving his country in the United States Air Force as an OSI agent, overseas in France, Germany, Italy, and the Philippine Islands. He also served Taylor County as a Deputy Sherriff and later as Deputy Constable.
In retirement, he volunteered at the Dyess AFB hospital as an information officer, and he enjoyed numerous trips to Europe, Canada, and the United States with his wife Monique.
He is survived by his wife, Monique; his children, Virginia & Howard W. Baum III of Tampa, Florida, Glen S. Baum & John V. Winn of Bastrop, Texas, and Gabrielle & Ray Fletcher of Gainesville, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon, Leslie, Brittany, and Kyler.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on January 10, 2010 at the Elmwood Funeral Home located on Highway 277 at 2 pm with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial gifts be made in his name to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street Abilene, TX 79601.
