Frees, Samuel "Edward", 87, of Ferry Township, Hesperia, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at Mercy-General Health Partners in Muskegon. He was born Jan. 14, 1915 in Ferry, the son of John and Tessie (Bennett) Frees. He married LaVyonne Aiken June 20, 1940 in Ferry. Mr. Frees lived on the same property his entire life. He was a member of Ferry United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He was a farmer and also drove school bus and worked as a janitor for Ferry Community Schools. He enjoyed friends and family, woodworking and snowmobiling. Mr. Frees is survived by his wife, LaVyonne; children, Judy (Duwain) Baade of Lansing, Paul (Jackie) Frees of Ferry Township, Natalie (Alan) Akershoek of Saugatuck, and Jeanine (Ivan) Pider of Holton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Johnson in 1986; brothers, Glennie, Orie, and LaVern Frees; and his sisters, Lottie Puffer, Mildred Miller, and Iva Isley. Services Saturday, March 2, 2 p.m. at Ferry United Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Brillhart officiating. Memorials to Ferry United Methodist Church or the National Kidney Foundation are appreciated.
