Retired Air Force Sgt. Gary Marvin Bentley Sr., 79, of 2423 Moody St., Fayetteville, entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006.
Mr. Bentley was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born May 20, 1926, in Saint Pauls to the late Rev. Noah W. Bentley and Ola Harris Bentley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Bentley; and by three sisters, Leola Taylor, Cora Hollar and Lois Graddy.
Mr. Bentley served his country with distinction and honor, having joined the Navy when he was 17 and served in the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific.
Mr. Bentley is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beatrice O. Bentley of the home; a daughter, Sandra and husband Tim of Parkton; five sons, Gary Marvin Jr. and wife Judy of St. Pauls, Jerry and wife Dale of Wilmington, Larry and wife Stella of Lumber Bridge, Terry and wife Gail of Spivey's Corner, and Thomas Bentley of Fayetteville; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Mr. Bentley is also survived by three brothers, James Bentley of Cumberland, Bill Bentley of Fayetteville, and David Bentley of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Saint Pauls Funeral Home in St. Pauls.
The body will lie in repose in the Lake Dale Church of God from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, prior to the funeral.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Lake Dale Church of God by the Rev. Gerald McDowell and Pastor James Walker. Burial will be at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Dale Church of God Building Fund, 2208 Progress St., Fayetteville, NC 28306, or to Advantage Hospice Care, 1710 Owen Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
