U.S. Congressman. Completing preparatory studies, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced the practice of law in Clinton, Mississippi. He was a member of the Mississippi State House of Representatives, (1845-46). Moving to Arkansas in 1847, he practiced law in Camden, was a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives, (1848-49) and judge of the circuit court of the sixth district of Arkansas. In 1853, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress, served until 1855 and elected to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving (1857-59). After leaving Congress, he relocated to Nevada and resumed the practice of law until his death.
