On June 21, 1850, Micajah Littleton recorded in his trail diary that he saw the grave of Sarah Stayner, age 35, who had died June 8, 1850. At that time he was located on the south bank about 20 miles east of the confluence of the North and South Platte rivers (or about 25 miles east of the present town of North Platte, Nebraska). Sarah had died of cholera.
