KINGSPORT - Russell William Ferrell, 69, died Thursday (Nov. 9, 2006) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 27, 1936 in Kansas City, Mo., he had lived in Kingsport for 54 years. He received his B.S. degree from Davidson University and retired in 1996 from Holston Defense Corp. after 28 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Russell and Dorothy Ferrell; mother and stepfather, Virginia and Herb Vatcher; aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Burton; and mother-in-law, Naomi Sarver.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy D. Ferrell; sisters, Virginia Lewis and husband, Al, Bullhead City, Ari., and Brenda Kay Barela, Nashville, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Robert Dobbs and wife, Elaine, Bethal, N.C.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda Coffman and Tom Sherrod, Knoxille; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Brian Schuler officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernard Benkey, Jim Faris, Roy Odom, Pat Kirby, Jim Kendrick, Robert Dobbs and Tom Sherrod.
