Mary Michaels married General Guthbert Vernon on 13 December 1913 in the Pleasant Valley community of Young County, Texas.

On Thursday, Mrs. G.G. Vernon peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, at her home north of Olney. At the time of her death, she was in the presence of her father and mother, the father and mother of her husband, and many loving friends, who did what they could to make her last days here as pleasant as possible. At the time of her death, she had three children sick in bed and her husband who had been sick for quite a while was not able to be out of bed. She joined the Rock Creek Baptist Church near Weatherford, Texas at the age of 12 years. At the time of her death, she was a good member of the Baptist Church in Olney. Her husband is the Superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School in Olney and an honored Deacon in the church. Most of her life had been spent in the Pleasant Valley community.

Survivors: husband; three young children - Richard, Neva, and Ruby Vernon.

Her burial was largely attended by real friends and true mourners. We will meet her again in a better home, free from such trying scenes.
