On March 14, 1930, in Reno, Nevada, William married Ida Caroline (Allwardt) Simmons. Ida had been widowed 12 years earlier when her husband died from the flu during the 1918 world-wide flu pandemic. Ida had two sons, Robert William, age 20, and Wilton Lawrence, age 19.
