John Fisher
John Charles Fisher, 84, Twin Lakes, passed away Jan. 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born Feb. 2, 1926 in Shullsburg, the son of Harry and Mary Whalen Fisher. On April 19, 1952 he was united in marriage to Donnafae Russell in Dubuque, Iowa. John attended St. Matthew's Grade School, Shullsburg High School and graduated from UW-Platteville. John served in the U.S. Army as a Tec4 from May 18, 1944 until discharge on June 16, 1946. He was stationed in Germany and France. He received the Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars, the Army of Occupation Medal-Germany and the Good Conduct Medal.

Upon returning home from service, he became a school teacher at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Salem-Central High School in Paddock Lake for 10 years and Randall Consolidated Grade School in Randall Township for 17 years before retiring in 1985.

John was an active member of the Twin Lakes American Legion Post #544 in Twin Lakes and a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

He was a coach at all his schools and loved all kinds of sports, having coached baseball at Salem-Central and many years with Lakeland Little League. He also coached the Randall Grade School basketball team for many years and really enjoyed all the good basketball teams he had at Randall. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Donnafae "Fae" Fisher; two sons: Daniel (Tura) Fisher, Trevor; Stephen (Pam) Fisher, Camp Lake; four daughters: Terri (Scott) Morton, Twin Lakes; Diane (Steve) Banas, Cedarburg; Marcia (Donald) Payson, Paddock Lake; Marilyn (Larry) Grubbs, Walworth; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne Sauer, La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Fisher; two brothers, Edward and James; and four sisters: Margaret Mulcahy, Catherine Probst, Delores O'Donnell and Alice Solberg.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 5, 2011 at St. John's Catholic Church, Twin Lakes. Interment with military honors was in St. John's Cemetery. Memorial remembrances may be made to the Fisher family. The Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, Twin Lakes, served the family. For online condolences, hdlfuneralhomes.com.
