Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company F, 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at North Anna River, Virginia on May 23, 1864. His citation reads "Volunteered for dangerous service and single-handedly captured 13 armed Confederate soldiers and marched them to the rear". His Medal was awarded to him on June 13, 1894.
