W. Fred Ferguson, 75 of 124 1/2 N. Merchant st., father of one of the stars of the silent movies, died at 2:45 am yesterday in St. Mary's hospital. He entered the hospital 13 days ago after being in failing health for one year.
Mr. Ferguson's daughter, Helen Ferguson(Hargreaves)was a star of silent movies and the stage for 16 years. Miss Ferguson, now Mrs. Helen Hargreaves, has been one of the Hollywood's leading publicity agents in more recent years.
A life long resident of Decatur, Mr. Ferguson was a retired tinsmith and the former owner of Ferguson's Hardware store, 658 E.Eldorado st. The store was established by his father. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Decatur, Aug. 6, 1880 a son of William L. and Catherine Imboden Ferguson. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Helen Hargreaves and Mrs.Catherine Brodine, both of Hollywood, Calif.
The body is in the J. J. Moran & Son's funeral home where funeral services will be at 3 pm Tuesday. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery.
