Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in Company B, 20th Kansas Volunteer Infantry US Army in the Philippine Campaign of the Spanish-American War. At Calumpit, Luzon, Philippine Islands, April 27, 1899, Private White swam the river in enemy fire, fastened a rope to occupied trenches enabling his company to cross the river and drive the enemy from a fortified position. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on March 11, 1902. After the war he worked as a Kansas City firefighter and died of tuberculosis at age 31.
