US Congressman. Born in Leavenworth, Kansas, he graduated from the law department of the University of Michigan in 1892, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Kansas City, Missouri. There he assisted in the organization of the Kansas City School of Law and served as dean (1895-1909). He also was an active member of the board of freeholders which directed to draft a charter for Kansas City in 1898. In 1909, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first and to the four succeeding Congresses and served until his death. He died at age 51 while on a Masonic mission
near Coblenz, Germany.
