Philosopher, Poet, Author. His best known works were the philosophical treatises "The Sense of Beauty", published in 1896, the five volume "The Life of Reason", published between 1905 and 1906, "Skepticism and Animal Faith", published in 1923, and "The Realms of Being", published in four volumes from 1927 until 1940. An aphorism from "The Life of Reason" - Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” - has become one of the best known and widely quoted statements in modern history, often misquoted as "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."
