The following is quoted from page 420 of Dr. Algie I. Newlin's 1965 book, "The Newlin Family: Ancestors and Descendants of John and Mary Pyle Newlin":
Joshua and Achsah Vestal Newlin were married in Rocky River Friends Meeting, on November 11, 1801. The certificate, as recorded in the Meeting records, contains one unusual feature; the bride, in signing the wedding certificate, did not "adopt" the name "Newlin." Only her maiden name is given: Achsah Vestal.
During the three years following their marriage, the young couple moved their membership twice between Cane Creek and Spring. Then on 4-VIII-1827 Cane Creek Meeting granted them a certificate of transfer of membership to Honey Creek Friends Meeting in Parke County, Indiana, approximately sixty miles west of Indianapolis. Only the last of their twelve children was born in Indiana.
The best source for material on the descendants of Joshua and Achsah (Vestal) Newlin was a manuscript prepared by Rhoda Marshall Banta, a great-great-granddaughter of Joshua and Achsah. This manuscript was made available by her cousin, Allen S. Hadley, of Marshall, Indiana.
