Shellhouse, Donald Edward, 69, of Elbridge Township, died June 21, 2000 at home. Mr. Shellhouse was the owner of Shellhouse Sawmill. Mr. Shellhouse was born in Detroit, May 28, 1931 to Jay Henry and Leona (Mitchell) Shellhouse. He moved to the Hart area as a child and lived in the area most of his life. Mr. Shellhouse served in the US Army and was awarded three Bronze Stars during the Korean War. He was also awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Commandation Ribbon with Metal Pendant. Shellhouse was forced to sell his medals after service for bus fare to get home. He married Betty V. Turner in Hart, Dec. 23, 1950. He was retired from Continental Motors. He started logging in 1954 and bought the sawmill in 1959. Mr. Shellhouse was a hard worker and a Christian man. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Hart; daughters, Candice Culler of Hudsonville, and Marlene and Victor Routley of Hart; sons, Donald and Judy Shellhouse, Jr., of Hart, Robert and Tonya Shellhouse of Pentwater, and David and Dr. Julie Shellhouse of Rothbury; grandchildren Chaunnee Gilbert, Rebecca Routley, Isaac Routley, Anna Shellhouse, Sarah Shellhouse, Donald Shellhouse III, Stacy Shellhouse and Brittany Shellhouse; five great-grandchildren and brother Rev. Robert and Geneva Shellhouse of Hart. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leroy Thomas Shellhouse and triplet brothers. Graveside funeral services were Saturday, June 24, 11:30 a.m. at the Elbridge Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Luedeman presiding. Memorials are suggested to Hackley Visting Nurses. Arrangements by Tate Funeral Home, Hart.
