Bonnie Novella Ray, 85, of Muskogee, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness, with her daughter, Sonya and caregiver, Linda Blankenship by her side. Bonnie was the ninth child of Calvin Green and Julia Dianne Caroline (Jones) Mitchell and was born in Scranton, Logan County, Arkansas on April 20, 1925. Bonnie married the love of her life, Warren G. Ray, on April 4, 1944 in Bakersfield, Kern County, California. Bonnie was a homemaker, although, she did work briefly as a cashier at the Seviers Hotel in the 1950's. Bonnie considered her family to be her life and took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Warren and her ten siblings. Brothers, Lowell, Floyd and Boyd Mitchell plus a stillborn infant, sisters, Ona Rimola, Lorraine Alexander, Maudie Anderson, Audie Yimm, Plemely Birge and Orpha Daniels. Bonnie is survived by her son, Gary Eston Ray, of the home and daughter, Sonya Dea O'Dell and husband, Kevin, granddaughter, Courtney Dawn Crawford and grandson, Christopher Warren Buie and wife, Cindy, great-grandchildren, Madison Chianne Chambers, Jaedyn Brinley Crawford, Jarrett Michael Crawford, Brenley Marie Buie and Haden Jacob Buie, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Bonnie Novella Ray will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Crow officiating. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery. (Muskogee Phoenix)
