Ernestine (Strong) Murphy, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 5, 2011.

She was born on July 2, 1936, in Hardburly, KY, daughter of the late June Edward and Lillian (Swanner) Strong.

Ernestine retired from Western Electric after 30 years of employment, and also worked at St. Paul Hermitage. She was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Glenda (John) Conway; grandchildren, Carmen, Belinda, Ryan, John, Dan, Jason, Mark, Tyler, and Amy; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Hembree, and Martha Knight; brothers, Fred, James, Talmon, and Jack Strong.

She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Allen Murphy; brothers, Kenneth Donald and Paul Edward Strong; and great grandson, Mason Douglas.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Ernestine will be laid to rest in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley.
