Daughter of Eva Louise Maurer and George Franklin Hoff. Father came to the little mining town of Lake City, Colorado, as a teacher and met Miss Maurer, the daughter of a Swiss immigrant jeweler, John Maurer and Flora Eva Blood. Mr. Hoff was also a Mining Engineer in Colorado. The family relocated to San Diego about 1902, where Mr. Hoff built a home on Front Street, begain his law career and added 1 girl and two boys to the family.
Louise married Joseph E. Merrill on 14 Feb 1924. She was a stay-at-home mom to their two children, Joseph Edward "Ted" Merrill and Barbara "Bobbi" Merrill. She remained healthy, witty and very active until her sudden death from a congenital heart condition. She was an excellent seamtress, especially making dance costumes for her sister's dance academy and was an artist of some note in the local community, leaving behind many beautiful paintings, enamels and drawings.
