U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Union College, in 1835, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Penn Yan, New York. He was judge of the court of common pleas, (1843-47), plus judge of the surrogate and county courts in 1846. In 1853, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third and Thirty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1857. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in agricultural pursuits, also in the practice of law and again served as Yates County, New York judge and surrogate, (1872-77).
