He was the son of William and Mary (Ezell) Parris. He grew to manhood on the banks of Buck Creek in Spartanburg county.

He married 1st in 1851 to Sarah Cantrell. They had one son, William H., born before her death.

He married 2nd Jane Ann Elder, 1854, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. They had three children before David's death in 1862.

David served as Sergeant in Co. E 13th Inf. Reg. Vol. of the Confederate Army giving his life to the cause.

David was the father of 4 children;

2. Mary E. b-1855
3. John M. b-1856
4. Perry Smith b-28 Feb 1858
